Is Ganga considered a wife of Siva? How common is this belief?

The only textual reference I have found is in the sloka "Sive
srngArArdrA" in the Saundaryalahari. The phrase is "saroshA
gangAyAm" where the commentator explains that Ganga is Uma's
`sapatnI.'

I didn't find any reference to this belief in the hymn
"gangAshTakam" attributed to Sankara.
