Sanskrit: Lok Bhasha update The project to make conversational Sanskrit the language of Bharat is taking shape, here is the progress report. I am going to setup an email web server like the Hotmail and other providers of free email except that Sanskrit will be the only medium. It is a hard-headed business project, it now has a UK registered company with my own money. It is, however, fuelled by a passion that unless Bharat again has a language of her own, and what better than the Devbhasha which once flourished in akhand Bharat and therefore has no regional tag, unless we bring that about we are not going anywhere. It is the same love and devotion as shown by Sri Krishan Shastri of Bangalore and by Pandit Sadanant Dikshit of Kendriya Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Tirpati, and their band of volunteers (Aditi Chaturvedi in the Swordoftruth web site writes about these devotees, 4 December), who go from house to house extolling the virtues of learning conversational Sanskrit. In ten days one can learn a thousand words and half as many sentences, more than enough for starters. Very recently in Dilli the Lok Bhasha Prachar Samity held a teach-in Sanskrit camp, 30,000 attended, majority of them youngsters. If even one of them goes on to become an acharya, is that not a renewal and a miracle of our Dharma. All our shastras will be online on the web server for anyone to read/hear and understand, from the students, scholars and Dalits in the ashrams, bastis and palaces to the Nehru-Gandhis (I have my doubts about the N-Gs logging in to learn what to them is a foreign language). The skullduggery of the mischievous and the corrupt who have, over the millenia, deliberately and maliciously put their own spin on the sublime teachings will be there for all to see. So I invite supporters, sponsors, business partners to join me in this venture, a collaboration with an already established Internet Service Provider would also be very welcome. I have majority of the technical skills required (UNIX, networks, programming) to rollout the project. Any part-time/full-time technical assistance in rest of the skills would be suitably rewarded. Please contact via email (jiten_bardwaj@hotmail.com or jiten@bardwaj.freeserve.co.uk) or tel: (+44)1992 511565.

may the almighty speed this excellent project to bring back the devbhasha... to me it is quite embarassing that i'm not fluent in the language i honour the most... i'm not sure how possible it is to have sanskrit taught as the second language (or as vernacular) in public schools in bharat... seeing as we have a hindu leadership there shouldn't be too much resistance to it's introduction... also, sanskrit as a conversational language will greatly unite india, since it was a common language for centuries and has no geographical loyalties... north-south dialogue will really open up more

This is the most laudable thought of the Millenium. A dream come true - at a personal level. I Shall be more than happy to make our mother-tongue widely spoken once again. By making Samskrith a colloquial language, we get to know the immense treasures of Ancient Physics, Mathematics, Astronomy, Psychology, Philosophy and the many millions of other forms of Art & Science. Vijayam Bhavathu.
