Meaning of the word Sanaatana

I am trying to understand the meaning of the word Sanaatana. It seems
that it has two meanings. Sometimes, it seems to mean "eternal," and
sometimes "ancient." I am particularly stumped by a line in the
Satyanarayana Katha in the final addhyaya, that reads, "Bhavishyati Kalau
Satyavrataroopee Sanaatanah."

Could someone shade light on the words "Kalau" and "Sanaatanah" in this
context, please.

I look forward to hearing from you soon.
