Mission Statement
Kanti Marg means "On the glorious path to excellence". It is inspired by the watchwords "Yoga Karmasu Kaushalam - Yoga is Excellence in Action".
This Award started in 1992 to honor citizens who demonstrate through their actions excellence and commitment to nation building and to Hindu socio-religious and cultural evolution in Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean. The Kanti Marg Committee seeks to celebrate exemplars and role models that epitomize the holistic vision of the Hindu hero - one nurtured by spirituality, morality, Truth, Knowledge, service to humanity, brilliance in endeavour, humility, love and compassion. Kanti Marg enjoins the nation to recall the higher role models of the teacher, voluntary worker, ideal parent, friend, husband, wife, and child, for example.
The Vivekananda Award is a subsidiary award that recognizes similar contributions by citizens - of any faith - especially in the area of youth and nation building.
The Kanti Marg and Vivekanada Award are ways of saying "thank you" to these dedicated sons and daughters of our beloved motherland and to collectively give them our blessings to go on to work for the glory of self, family, community, nation and the world. They demonstrate the Hindu vision of inter-connectivity between all species of God’s creation and at all levels of existence.
The committee that generated the award in 1992 continues to work selflessly in this direction and guards its status as an independent committee, free of political and sectarian biases. The committee is driven by a spirituality that is broad and all- inclusive, while firmly planted in the Hindu ethos. We have maintained the uniqueness of this award by not merely giving it out every year but by waiting for the right person or persons emerge.
