Sivananda Math
Sivananda Math is registered as a social and charitable society. It
was founded by Paramahamsa Satyananda in 1984 in memory of his Guru, Swami
Sivananda Saraswati of Rishikesh. The aim of the organization is to facilitate
the upliftment of the weaker and underdeveloped sections of society, especially
in rural areas. This is undertaken by following the precepts of seva (service),
karuna (compassion), prem (love) and sneha (affection)
espoused by Swami Sivananda Saraswati.
- At present the activities of Sivananda Math span 21 villages and over
10,000 families in one of the poorest tribal regions of Bihar known as

As a part of its on-going activities every year Sivananda
Math has provided
- To families: housing, clothing, games and toys, utensils, sewing machines,
cloth and cows.
- To students: educational aid in the form of scholarships and books,
stationary, uniforms and bicycles to girls.
- For the elderly (over the age of 80): special programs including
a monthly stipend of Rs 200/-
- For the handicapped: establishment of shops and other earning facilities,
hand-propelled tricycles.
- Medical: TB treatment, establishment of a 50-bed clinic known as
Amrit Kalash, integrating all modes of medical treatment.
- Employment: hand carts, rickshaws and auto rickshaws.
- Farming: bullocks, seeds and farming tools.
- Cultural development: programs to help the tribal people become strong
in their own cultural values and heritage.
Financial donations to assist in the fulfillment of its aims, may be
made out to "Sivananda Math" either by check, bank draft or international
money order. You may also help by sending donations in kind as per the

Overseas donors can organize to contribute a donation in kind through
their local Satyananda Yoga (tm) Center or
Satyanandashram, or
Sivanada Math.
